As many students know, Mr. Regan is a dark side apprentice working under Lord Vader. Therefore, hiding in a book somewhere in the library Yoda is. Please use the force young Caravelites to locate Yoda. If you find him, a prize you will win. You are only authorized to search during times that the library is open such as first thing in the morning, during lunch, or H-period. If there is a sign on the door that says a class is using the library or students are testing, then searching for Yoda is prohibited. Once Yoda is found by a student, he will be placed in a new book and the game will resume. I would wish you luck, but Obi-Wan Kenobi states, “In my experience there is no such thing as luck.”

Here in the upper school library, we like to be kind and forgiving. If you are a student who owes fine money for a late book, have it waived by doing something good for yourself or your community. You can get your fine waived by doing one of the following things:
"Finally, MLA has updated!" exclaimed no student ever. In fact, I don't think many people here were even aware that an update was made. Most of the time, my students ask me what MLA means. I always tell them to look it up.
After putting off making a quick reference guide for our students and teachers, I finally began recreating a newer, more efficient quick reference guide for our most used types of information. I must say, I like the new changes. Taking out redundancies and creating clear order makes life simpler - like a Frank Lloyd Wright building. Just like Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, the Modern Language Association (darn, I gave away the acronyms) has to live up to its name, they must remain modern. Though, his buildings are now considered historical, but that is a moot point. Similarly, like the evolution of the world, our language must evolve. When our world evolves, so must the mighty Librarian. Happy citing children! Yesterday, I had the privilege of teaching the computer animations class about using our 3D printer. It is always fun seeing the students get excited about how the 3D printer works. I was able to walk them through programs to create objects of their own. I can't wait to see what they will create in the next few weeks. Technology is awesome. It is so cool that we have the opportunity to keep such a useful piece of equipment in our library space. The future has arrived and Caravel students are leading the way to a better and more creative world.
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I would tell you about it, but then I may spoil the fun. If you want to check it out, see Mr. Jones or Mr. Regan. It is very popular and in order to read it next, you must place it on hold. I will tell you that I was entertained. I would recommend this book if you are a Harry Potter fan, a fan of books, or just a fantastic fan of fans. I really enjoyed reading this book under a ceiling fan.
We are excited about another year in the library! We received a large shipment of new books to be added to our collection. We moved some furniture around in anticipation for updated furniture, and we now have a working pencil sharpener.
We are underway with orders for your required summer reading. Money and orders are due by the end of the school day on Thursday, June 2. We hope to have them delivered to all the students by the last day of school. We also are open now for book checkouts for the summer for leisure reading. We have totes that you can fill with 10 books. If you want to partake in this program, stop by the library.
David Teague is coming to Caravel on May 26th! I know, I know, you hear Mr. Jones talk about him way too much. That just means he is a really awesome author.
Interested High school students can sign up for a workshop with him about Historical Fiction. It will be fun. 7th and 8th graders can sign up for a workshop with him about writing children's books. This will also be fun. Fun is the key word. The sign ups for this are posted digitally on the main page of our website and the old fashioned way, paper and pen. The 5th and 6th graders will be able to sit down and he will do a book talk about one of his books during your Reading or Language Arts class. Stay tuned for the schedule! |
